ORONO – The brothers of Beta Theta Pi at the University of Maine are offering a $100 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever vandalized the sign in front of their fraternity house.
UM spokesman Joe Carr confirmed Friday with university police that the incident is under investigation.
In a press release issued this week, Beta Theta Pi President Joshua Lagasse reported that the sign on the fraternity’s front lawn was damaged between 4 and 7 a.m. last Sunday.
“Currently, neither officers nor the brotherhood have any clue as to who would do this,” Lagasse wrote.
The sign had been put up the week before at UM’s homecoming celebration, but had been an ongoing project for the past three years, he said.
UM Student Senate and its Greek Grant Program helped provide funding for the sign as part of its effort to assist in beautification projects around campus.
Anyone with information on who vandalized the sign may contact UM Public Safety at 581-4040, or submit an anonymous tip through the Campus Eyes Web site at www.umaine.edu/publicsafety/campuseyes.htm.
