BURLINGTON, Vt. – Carson Laderoute scored the game’s only goal with 9:52 remaining in the second half Thursday to lead the University of Vermont to a 1-0 America East women’s soccer victory over Maine.

It was incorrectly reported in Friday’s paper that Maine was eliminated from postseason contention.

Since six teams from America East qualify for the playoffs, coach Scott Atherley’s Black Bears (5-7-3 overall, 3-3-1 AE) have secured a spot in the quarterfinals, which will be played Nov. 1 at the home sites of the higher seeds.

Maine, which has finished second in the America East tournament the previous four seasons, occupies fifth place heading into Sunday’s noon regular-season finale against Stony Brook in Orono.

Jasmine Phillips was not forced to make any saves against four shots for Maine.

Eliza Bradley made eight saves on 11 shots for the 3-13-1 Catamounts, who also remain in postseason contention.

Volleyball

Binghamton 3, Maine 0

At Orono, Ashley Allen had 12 digs and eight kills to lead Binghamton University past the University of Maine 30-26, 30-24, 30-14.

Lindsey Mueller added 29 assists and 11 digs for 15-14 Binghamton and Michelle McDonough had nine kills and nine digs.

Lindsay Allman led the 2-19 Black Bears with 13 digs and nine kills. Amanda Armstrong totaled 11 kills and Ashley Wright added 13 digs.

Men’s soccer

UM-Fort Kent 6, UMPI 1

At Presque Isle, Andrew Martin scored two goals and assisted another to lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent to victory over UMaine-Presque Isle on Thursday.

Andre Anderson, Emlyn Jacoby, Sean Platt and Justin Dunlea each added a goal for the 17-0 Bengals. Derrick Plourde stopped six of seven shots.

Matt Petrie scored in the second half for 7-9-1 UM-Presque Isle. Scott Clenchy made nine saves on 15 shots.
