OLD TOWN – Three students likely will be expelled for their involvement last week in a bomb threat at Old Town High School.
“I’ll be making a recommendation to the board to expel the students,” Superintendent David Walker said Monday.
The three juveniles have been charged with felony terrorizing for their involvement in the bomb threat on Oct. 24 that resulted in the school being evacuated and students and teachers sent home, Old Town police Sgt. Mike Hashey said Monday.
The names of the accused aren’t being released because they are juveniles.
The vague letter was found around 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday at the school.
“All three admitted to having part in it,” Hashey said. “[The juveniles] were released to their parents and basically are under house arrest until their trial.”
Police were able to identify the culprits with help from school officials as well as the student body.
In addition to Old Town police, state police and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department officers went to the school and had finished searching it by 4 p.m.
Dogs were brought in to search the building, but nothing was found.
“We were happy to be able to find the perpetrators,” Walker said. “The student body was as upset about the incident as anyone.”
