BOWDOINHAM – Police say a 21-year-old woman was killed in Portland before her body was dumped in a stream in Bowdoinham.

The Maine Department of Public Safety says the victim, whose body was discovered Saturday morning in a tributary of the Cathance River by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, was identified as Jennifer Soto.

Spokesman Stephen McCausland says investigators believe Soto was killed in Portland, so state police are assisting the Portland Police Department. State police divers searched the river Sunday for possible evidence.

An autopsy has been conducted on Soto’s body, but the state medical examiner’s office declined to release the results.
