FARMINGTON – Melissa St. Amand, Ashley Tetreault and Amber Murphy each converted a penalty kick as the top-seeded University of Maine-Farmington women’s soccer team knocked off No. 5 Elms College 1-0 in penalty kicks in a North Atlantic Conference semifinal Tuesday.
The Beavers move on to host No. 2 Husson (13-6-1) in the NAC title game on Saturday.
Melissa Demerchant came up with a pair of saves in the shootout for the 14-4-2 Beavers while Kerry Kowalczyk made two saves in 110 minutes of play for Elms.
Keene State 3, Southern Maine 1
At Keene, N.H., the Keene State College Owls scored three unassisted goals in a span of 15 minutes midway through the first half en route to the victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies.
Kendra Spencer, Renee Halsey, and Jaclyn Grant each scored for 12-7-1 Keene State and Samantha Hirsh made three saves on nine shots.
For USM, which finished at 7-11, Natasha Levandowski scored a second-half goal off an assist from Llia Dunham-Conway and Mindy Morneault made 11 saves on 20 shots.
Field hockey
USM 3, Westfield State 1
At Gorham, Samm Johnson, Caitlin Albert and Rolinda Mitchell netted a goal apiece to lead Southern Maine to their Little East Conference semifinal victory.
Cristina Corson and India Lowe grabbed assists for the 14-6 Huskies. Allie Hill and Courtney Howe didn’t make any saves on two shots.
Alicia Gardner scored for Westfield State (10-8) while Cat Hanks had seven saves on 18 shots.
UM-Farmington 2, Lasell 0
At Farmington, Ashley Wentworth and Emma Deans scored a goal apiece as the University of Maine-Farmington blanked Lasell College in a North Atlantic Conference semifinal.
Alyssa St. Pierre set up Wentworth’s goal for the 12-5 Beavers. Kaeliegh Barker had one save on three shots.
Laura Gallagher stopped 15 of 22 shots for the 8-11 Lasers.
