FRANKFORT – A local woman was listed in critical condition at a Bangor hospital after she crashed her car into a grove of trees Monday night.
Rebecca Tripp, 27, of Frankfort was treated for head and spinal injuries after the 7:45 p.m. wreck on Marsh Stream Road.
After rescue personnel from the Frankfort Fire Department removed Tripp from her 1990 Honda Accord, she was transported to the town’s baseball field by Winterport Ambulance where she was transferred to a LifeFlight helicopter and rushed to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Maine State Police Trooper Jonah O’Roak.
O’Roak said Tripp was headed in the direction of Loggin Road when for some reason her vehicle strayed to the side of the road on a slight curve. Tripp overcorrected when she tried to get back on the travel surface and skidded across the road into a grove of trees between two homes. The Honda hit one tree head-on and then rebounded and struck another on the post between the passenger side doors. Tripp, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from her vehicle, O’Roak said.
O’Roak added that speed or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
“It looked like your typical drive off the road, overcorrect and go off the other side of the road accident,” Tripp said Tuesday. “Unfortunately, there were trees on the other side of the road.”
