4 newspapers come out in opposition to racino

AUGUSTA – Four daily newspapers are coming out in opposition to a proposed harness-racing track with slot machines in eastern Maine.

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta, the Morning Sentinel in Waterville, the Journal Tribune in Biddeford and The Times Record in Brunswick published editorials this week against the Nov. 6 ballot question.

Three other daily papers – in Portland, Bangor and Lewiston – have come out in favor of the Nov. 6 ballot question.

The Kennebec Journal wrote that gambling is a “deceitful” way of doing business, calling it inherently unfair and relying on the wishful thinking and desperation of its customers.
