Area youth sought for talent show

The search is on. Seventeen-year-old Kristyn Murphy, a senior at John Bapst Memorial High School, is seeking musically talented area youth to help perform a bit of community service.

Those between the ages of 8 and 20 who would like the opportunity to share their musical talents are encouraged to sign up for a local talent show to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at Forest Avenue Congregational Church.

“Last summer, Forest Avenue Church approached me and asked if I could organize a talent show to help pay for their new organ,” said Murphy, who frequently provides special music for the church. “A couple of years ago I put together a youth-oriented hurricane relief concert for Katrina victims. As that was very successful, I decided another fundraiser show featuring area youth would be the perfect thing.”

Murphy is hoping that out of those who participate in the concert, she will find some strong performers to join her on a local Christmas tour in December.

She has performed around the state and the New England area since she was 8 years old. In December 2006 she released her first solo CD, “To the Glory of God,” which has sold in England, Japan, Canada and Finland, as well as the United States.

Murphy said that she enjoys encouraging young people to perform and share their gifts.

“I want to give other youth the kind of performance opportunities that were given to me,” she said.

Those who would like to participate in the upcoming talent show, should call Kristyn Murphy at 825-3840 or e-mail kristyn@teengracemusic.com.
