BANGOR – The Greater Bangor Women’s Ski and Snowboard Club has raised $3,700 for the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition Support Services Fund this past year. The proceeds from a fuel oil raffle and club silent auction generated the contribution. To date, the club has raised more than $19,000 for the fund.
Club organizers thanked local fuel oil suppliers Webber Energy Fuels, Dead River Co. and Irving Oil Corp. for their community-minded support of the event. Special thanks were given to Ski Rack Sports for helping the cause in association with their suppliers. In addition, many local businesses donated to the fundraiser.
The club is raising funds again this year and hopes to take the total donation over the $20,000 mark. A fuel oil raffle is now under way, with donations from Webber and Irving. Look for raffle tickets at Marden’s, which allows the club to conduct sales at its Brewer store.
The Greater Bangor Women’s Ski and Snowboard Club was started by Jan Bennett in 1999. It brings together women who enjoy good skiing and good company.
Four ski trips are organized to Sugarloaf with significant discounts on lift tickets, rentals and clinics. Transportation is available on Cyr buses. Members ski at all levels and said that learning to ski or snowboard is economical and fun through the Learn to Ski option offered through Sugarloaf.
Those seeking skiing companions or who want to learn to ski may visit the sign-up meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Ski Rack Sports. It is a fun evening with wine and cheese tasting provided by State Street Wine and appetizers provided by Frank’s Bakery.
A silent auction is available to those who sign up for a ski package before or during that evening. Raffles and gift bags make the evening lots of fun. For information, call Andrea at 262-4375.
