Lifeguard instructing classes
The Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Greater Bangor Y will co-sponsor a six-day Lifeguard Instructor course 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Sunday, Nov. 18, and ending Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Y’s pool facility, Union and Second streets, Bangor.
Participants must hold current American Red Cross lifeguard certification, be able to pass an aquatics screening, complete the basic lifeguard written test on the first class day and be at least 17 years old.
The registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 12. To register, call Pat Walsh at 941-2903.
The $250 Lifeguard Instructor course fee may be paid by check or credit card. Call Walsh for credit card registration, or send a check for the course fee to Pine Tree Chapter, 33 Mildred Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
Karate classes
ORONO – Maine Traditional Karate, under the auspices of the Orono Parks and Recreation Department, will offer karate classes 3-4 p.m. Wednesday and Fridays for children age 5 to 8; and 4:15-5:15 p.m. for children age 9 and up at the Keith Anderson Community House, Bennoch Road. Bangor Youth Hockey
BANGOR – Bangor Youth Hockey will offer a 10-week Learn to Play program at 9 a.m. beginning Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sawyer Arena. The program is available to children of all ages, but each child must be able to skate independently. There is no cost to participate, but preregistration is required.
