ELLSWORTH – Another round of rain and high winds skidded across coastal Maine Tuesday, producing several hundred power outages throughout Hancock County.
Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. reported more than 300 outages at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, but by 5 p.m. that number dropped to fewer than 100. All were in Hancock County except for a handful in nearby Washington County.
The remaining outages were expected to be addressed later Tuesday evening, but Bangor Hydro cautioned that more outages were not out of the question.
“This storm will likely cause trees and limbs damaged by the hurricane to fall on lines,” a Bangor Hydro statement read. “Although crews have worked nonstop to repair the hurricane damage, existing damage combined with high winds will likely contribute to additional outages tonight.”
Many parts of the county had only just recovered from the remnants of Hurricane Noel, which left a peak of 9,000 homes in eastern Maine without power over the weekend.
Bangor Hydro, with assistance from workers from Central Maine Power Co. and a utility crew from Vermont, spent most of Sunday and Monday scattered throughout Hancock County.
All customers who lost power over the weekend had their power restored by Tuesday morning, just in time for the latest storm to arrive.
As much as an inch of rain fell on parts of eastern Maine on Tuesday, accompanied by winds that reached 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
A high-wind warning was issued for Washington and Hancock counties and was expected to last until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Bangor Hydro indicated crews already had been dispatched to Hancock County to deal with additional outages as they come in.
