The 42nd season of the Bangor Daily News Football Forecast is now in the books. And it was one for the record books.

Assistant sports editor Pete Warner made Forecast history this season, claiming his seventh staff prognosticating title. That eclipses the mark of six he had shared with late BDN sports editor Owen Osborne since 1998.

Warner went 16-4 in Week 10, locking out runner-up Jim Goodness (16-4) and surviving the last-ditch upset picks of three-time champion Ernie Clark, who was 12-8.

Warner compiled a 166-34 season mark (.830), the second-best percentage ever. After joining the staff in 1982, he previously claimed Forecast titles in 1984, ’89, ’91, ’94, ’97 and ’98.

Goodness finished second at 162-38 (.810), four games back, while Andrew Neff, Joe McLaughlin and Dave Barber shared third place at 158-42 (.790). John Holyoke (157-43, .785) claimed sixth, Clark and Jessica Bloch tied for seventh (156-44, .780) and Larry Mahoney (150-50, .750), was ninth.

Guest honors were shared by Shey Gardner of Lincoln and Mark Lewis of Bangor, each of whom went 17-3. Lewis did it in Week 4, while Gardner was the Week 1 guest.

The guest roster also included: Dan Coffin of Bangor (16-4), Scott Adams of Orrington, Terry Lawry of St. George and Matt Clark of Lincoln (all 14-6), Gary Jewell Sr. and Brent Robbins, both of Bangor (13-7), Ken Hanscom of Orono (12-8) and Aaron Largay of Brewer (11-9).

We hope you all enjoyed matching wits with the BDN staff, our guests and each other. See you again next season.
