AUBURN – Auburn Mayor Jon Jenkins is an instant celebrity after winning re-election as a write-in candidate.

Jenkins made history as the first black mayor in Auburn. Now he’s making history again as the first mayor in Auburn history to win re-election even though he wasn’t on the ballot, after supporters waged a write-in campaign.

On Wednesday, Jenkins tried to go about his job as mayor but he had to deal with at least nine TV stations from as far away as Boston and New York that wanted to interview him. For his part, Jenkins says he’s “humbled.”
