FREEPORT – L.L. Bean will welcome scores of outdoor enthusiasts this weekend for its annual Winter Sports Expo.

The event runs today and Sunday and features a weekend full of family and kids fun and activities, interactive demonstrations, presentations, promotions as well as snowshoe and product testing.

During the expo, L.L. Bean will offer 20 percent discounts on all snowshoes and cross country ski equipment, special pricing on other winter products, and will offer free ice skate sharpening.

Gov. John Baldacci will appear from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. today to promote his “Take it Outside” campaign for the state.

Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott will also be at the expo today from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Special guests include staffers from WinterKids, the Maine Winter Sports Center, the New England Nordic Ski Association, Pineland Farms and the Mount Washington Observatory.

Sunkhaze hike planned

The Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge will host a hike on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

The hike will be an easy walk of about 21/2 miles. Hikers are advised to dress for the weather and bring water and a camera.

Participants will hike the Johnson Brook trail and will meet at 1 p.m. at the parking lot for Johnson Brook. The meeting spot is located about eight miles out the County Road in Milford.
