Cumberland County Jail reports stabbing

PORTLAND – Authorities say a man charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a police officer stabbed another inmate at the Cumberland County Jail.

Capt. Don Goulet says inmate Terrell Dubois, 23, responded to a racial slur by using a wooden pencil to stab a federal detainee Friday. He says the victim, 37-year-old Robert Riffey, was stabbed near the collar bone. The injury was not life-threatening.

Dubois was charged with two counts of aggravated attempted murder after he opened fire on officers who were trying to arrest him last year.

Both Dubois and a South Portland police officer were hit multiple times. Both survived.

The stabbing is being investigated by the sheriff’s department. Goulet says the U.S. Marshals Service has been notified of the incident.
