NEWRY – A 21/2-year-old boy was killed when he was run over by a pickup truck driven by his father while working at the Sunday River Ski Area.

James Bennett, 42, of the Bethel area was doing maintenance work on the Starlight Trail behind the Grand Summit Hotel when he placed the boy, Wyatt Bennett, on a woodpile while he moved his truck, according to state police.

The boy wandered off and was crushed by one of the vehicle’s tires, authorities said.

The father, who is a local emergency medical worker, used his radio to call for help but the boy died at the scene.
