Gardiner beats Winslow for EM Class B title

GARDINER – Bass Chadwick and Brad Stilphen each rushed for two touchdowns as the No. 1 Gardiner football team beat No. 3 Winslow 37-0 Saturday for the Eastern Maine Class B championship.

The Tigers, now 10-1, move on to face Mountain Valley for the state title Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. The Maine Principals’ Association will announce the game times for all three state finals on Tuesday.

The defending Class B state champion Falcons of Rumford beat Cape Elizabeth 10-0 Saturday for the Western Maine crown.

Chadwick scored on runs of 8 and 3 yards in the first and second quarters, respectively. Carleton scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and a 21-yard run in the third.

Forrest Chadwick added an 8-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, during which time Gardiner also forced a fumble out of the end zone for a safety. Kyle Stiphen was 5-for-5 on extra points.
