The price of diesel fuel has risen an average of 24 cents in the last two weeks. Based on calculations from the September 2007 average price of $2.95 per gallon, the Energy Information Administration provides the following breakdown of what consumers pay for in a gallon of diesel fuel:

. Crude oil: 61 percent

. Refining: 17 percent

. Distribution and marketing: 6 percent

. Taxes: 16 percent
