Corinth auction to help youth fight rare disease

Items for people to bid on at the benefit auction for Zachary Nickerson of Corinth are suitable for people of all tastes, reports organizer Wanda Grant Poulin.

“I have just been overwhelmed by the support” this benefit has received not only from residents but people in the Bangor area and beyond, she said.

Everything from windows to NASCAR memorabilia will be up for bid at the auction at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Tilton’s Auction Barn on Puddledock Road in Corinth.

Professional auctioneer Jeff Tilton will guide you through the event that features a 50-50 raffle every hour, door prizes, a variety of other raffles and a bake sale by representatives of Morison Memorial School, which Zachary would attend if he were able.

Zachary, 10, is the son of Lloyd and Michele Nickerson of Corinth.

He was born with severe combined immunodeficiency, or SCID, a rare and often fatal disease.

Diagnosed at 6 months, he has fought for his life ever since with numerous trips to Bangor and Boston, and two bone marrow transplants.

Daily, he deals with a number of other health-related issues caused by the side effects of his treatments, and now is on oxygen until a donor can be found.

If you can help by making a donation to the auction, call Poulin at 285-3090 or Valerie Grant at 285-7713. Better yet, plan to attend the auction and make a contribution by participating in the bidding.
