Police ask for public’s help solving Weston robbery case

WESTON – State police were seeking the public’s help Monday as they worked to identify the person responsible for an armed robbery at Grand Lake Variety Store in Weston on Sunday evening.

Maine State Police Sgt. David McPherson said Monday that a person in a black ski mask entered the facility on U.S. Route 1 around 8 p.m. Sunday. Pointing a gun at the store clerk, the perpetrator demanded money.

He made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to McPherson.

As the man left the store, he reportedly said, “This is for Robert Tomah.”

McPherson said the suspect is believed to be a white male 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, with blue eyes. In addition to the ski mask, the suspect also wore a tattered gray, zip-up hooded sweat shirt.

Trooper Gene Sutton and his dog Kruz conducted a track. McPherson said investigators believe the suspect fled on foot to a car that was parked a short distance away. The suspect is believed to have headed toward Danforth in the car.

Trooper Carman Lilley is the primary investigator on the case. He is receiving assistance from U.S. Border Patrol agents and several other troopers.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Maine State Police at 532-5400 or 800-924-2261.
