OLATHE, Kan. – The University of Maine-Fort Kent men’s soccer team continued its undefeated season with a 2-1 first round victory over No. 20 Northwestern at the NAIA National Tournament on Wednesday.

The 21-0 Bengals won their first ever national tournament match and advance to play No. 4 Ohio Dominican today at 1 p.m.

Dwayne Smith opened the scoring for UM-Fort Kent in the 33rd minute on an assist from Andre Anderson with a goal from the top corner of the box.

Anderson tallied the eventual game-winner in the 41st minute as he took the ball from a Northwestern defender and scored from 20 yards out to give the Bengals a two-goal lead.

Northwestern answered with a goal in the 58th minute as its leading scorer, Brad White, finished a rebound on keeper Derick Plourde.

Plourde finished the game with six saves on seven shots for the Bengals.
