High school Heisman finalists

DUBLIN, Ohio – State finalists have been named for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Area finalists are:

. Ryan Weston, Bangor High School, Bangor.

. Scott Kelley, Central High School, Corinth.

. John White, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport.

. Jana Kenney, Dexter Regional High School, Dexter.

. Sarah Homich, Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth.

. Danielle Gray, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport.

“Every school has exceptional students that step up to the plate,” said Archie Griffin, two-time collegiate Heisman Trophy winner. “We’re honored to recognize these talented individuals who are role models in their schools and communities and welcome them to the Heisman family.”

State winners this year are Alex Bird of Washburn District High School and Gavin Cote of Dexter Regional High School.

Those honored embody the spirit of hard work and dedication, both on and off the field, through their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community service.

Youth basketball

BANGOR – The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department will offer a youth basketball program for children in grades three, four and five. The eight-week session will run Saturdays, Dec. 8 to Jan. 26.

The competitive program will have separate leagues for boys and girls.

The cost is $30 for Bangor residents, $40 others. For information, call 992-4490.
