The first day of preseason practice for high school wrestling is scheduled for Monday, and George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill is still in search of a varsity coach to replace Peter Weaver, who left after last season.

“We’ve got a group of kids who like to wrestle and are anxious to wrestle who are getting a little frustrated,” said GSA athletic administrator Jim Murphy.

The Eagles compete in the Penobscot Valley Conference and have a full schedule for the 2007-08 season. One additional concern Murphy has is that if GSA is unable to find a coach and has to forfeit its season’s schedule, under Maine Principals’ Association rules the program would not be able to compete in the varsity ranks for two years.

Anyone interested in coaching the GSA wrestling team should contact Murphy at 374-2808.
