HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – MacLaughlin’s Truck & Trailer won its fifth World Team Candlepin Championship in the last six years by beating defending champ Pelham Electric/A+ Accounting/Halifax Fairlanes in Saturday’s final.
The final matched up the two local teams as MacLaughlin’s also plays out of Halifax Fairlanes.
MacLaughlin’s defeated Halifax Fairlanes 2,017 to 1,881 in pin total. MacLaughlin’s had individual scores of 717, 683 and 617. Halifax’s individual scores were 601, 609, and 671.
MacLaughlin’s team members were Chris Hollett, Rob Henderson, Sean O’Flaherty, Davey Somerton, Pat Birchill, Tony MacLaughlin and Tim Carrigan.
In the Saturday afternoon semifinals, Halifax defeated USA East of Brewer 1,937-1,890 and MacLaughlin’s knocked off the N.H. All-Stars 1,862-1,840.
Halifax also reached the 1,900 mark in the second round Saturday morning to get into the semis with a 1,928 score against Maria’s Sub of Scituate, Mass. (1,905). The N.H. All-Stars rolled a 1,973 to eliminate Borrelli’s of Methuen, Mass., (1,955).
Next year, Brewer’s Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes will host the 25th annual Worlds tournament.
