Stilphen interception returns championship to Gardiner

PORTLAND – Kyle Stilphen intercepted a pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown with 8:07 left in the fourth quarter to help Gardiner capture the Class B State Championship over Mountain Valley 21-14 Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

It’s Gardiner’s first state title in 22 years.

Nick Jamison scored on a nine-yard run in the first quarter for Gardiner and Brad Carleton made it 14-0 on a 10-yard run in the first.

Justin Staires scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters for Mountain Valley.

Gardiner had 331 total yards of offense.
