FARMINGTON – Stacey Kent and Josalee Danielli combined for 25 points and the nationally-ranked University of Southern Maine forced 23 turnovers and held the University of Maine-Farmington to 26.5 percent shooting en route to a 62-41 victory in the Webber Energy Tournament final Sunday.

Emerson College (Mass.) rallied in the second half to beat UM-Presque Isle 73-58 in the consolation game.

In the title game, Shannon Kynoch had 10 points while Kent and Becky Dixon had a game-high eight rebounds apiece. Kent also dished out a game-high four assists for USM, ranked 9th in the d3hoops.com preseason poll.

Amanda Byrne’s 12 points and Erin Johnson’s seven rebounds paced UMF.

In the consolation game, Lauren Vassallo’s 17 points and 15 rebounds sparked Emerson along with Maude Okrah’s 18 points and Bri Papa’s 15 points.

Megan Korhonen’s game-high 24 points, Erica Davis’ 19 points and nine rebounds and Julie Wescott’s 11 points led UMPI.

On Saturday, Angela Sante Fe’s 16 points and Nicole Paradis’ 14 spearheaded USM’s 79-65 victory over Emerson and Caitlyn Laflin’s 20 points powered UMF to a 75-47 win over UMPI.

USM received 11 points from Josalee Danieli in the opener while Lindsay DeStefano’s 17 points and Kathy Andrade’s 16 led Emerson.

Samantha Wiley had 16 points for UMF while Korhonen’s 23 and Erica Davis’ 11 points sparked UMPI.

USM’s Paradis was the tourney’s Most Valuable Player and she was joined on the all-tourney team by Kent, Wiley, Laflin, Papa and Korhonen.

At Willimantic, Conn., Katie McCabe scored 30 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to lead Colby College past Wheaton College in two overtimes in the first round of the Eastern Connecticut State University Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.

McCabe’s lay-up with 3:31 left in the second overtime gave Colby of Waterville the lead for good. Julianne Kowalski had 16 points and 14 rebounds and Heather Quadir added 12 points.

Becky Aitchison paced Wheaton with 22 points and Krystin Hickey chipped in 20 points.

Thomas wins Terrier Tip-Off

At Waterville, Lea McNary had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Thomas College over College of St. Joseph of Vermont 73-69 Sunday to win the Terrier Tip-Off Tournament. Thomas beat University of Maine at Machias 75-54 Saturday.

On Saturday, McNary had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Thomas. Tonya Jones scored 17 points and Mallorie Blakney added 15 points and five steals. Karen Demers had 12 points and eight steals.

Felicia Herring led UM-Machias with 12 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Sara Wells scored 12 points and Angela Moody added 10 points.

On Sunday, Demers had 15 points and five assists for the Terriers and Blakney also had five assists with 11 points. Cortney Barrett scored 10 points.

Irene Tompkins paced College of St. Joseph with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Michelle Thompson had 16 points.

Trinity wins UMF tourney

At Farmington, Russ Martin scored a game-high 18 points and tournament Most Valuable Player Patrick Hasiuk tossed in 17 more as Trinity College (Conn.) won the Hight Chevrolet Tournament with a 61-38 win over the University of Maine-Farmington Saturday.

The University of Southern Maine beat UM-Presque Isle 113-48 in the consolation game.

Hasiuk, who hit five three-pointers, scored 12 first-half points as the Bantams built a 29-20 halftime lead.

Robert Taylor had nine points and 10 rebounds and Aaron Westbrooks had a game-high 11 rebounds for the winners, who held UMF to 26.8 percent shooting from the floor (15-for-56).

Sean Fry’s 12 points and seven rebounds led UMF.

In the consolation game, Drew Coppenrath scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures for USM.

Greg Whitaker and Josh Daniels had 11 points apiece for the Huskies with Broderic Jones and Alan Campbell notching 10 each. Daniels had a game-high eight rebounds.

Dwayne Mitchell’s game-high 23 points and four rebounds led UMPI.

At Collegeville, Pa., Lindsay McNamara had a hat trick with three goals to lead Bowdoin College to its first NCAA Division III Championship with a 4-3 win over Middlebury College Saturday at Ursinus College.

Bowdoin became the seventh team in history with a perfect season.

Ingrid Oelschlager scored the decisive goal at 51:03 in the second half to give 20-0 Bowdoin a 4-2 lead. Julia King assisted McNamara’s first goal. Emileigh Mercer made five saves on 11 shots.

Heather McCormack, Lindsay McBride and Reid Berrien scored for 17-5 Middlebury. Lacey Farrell and Marnie Rowe provided assists. Caitlin Pentifallo blocked four of 13 shots.
