Eastler, Forgues garner USATF awards

Air Force captain and Farmington native Kevin Eastler and University of Maine sophomore Lauren Forgues were awarded two of the nation’s top six USA Track and Field racewalking honors.

Retired custom shoe maker Bart Hersey of Wilton and the Maine association of USATF were also honored.

The awards will be presented Dec. 1 in Honolulu.

Eastler, stationed at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, won the 50-kilometer and 20K national championships this year, while posting an Olympic “A” Standard qualifying time of 1 hour, 22 minutes, 56 seconds in the IAAF 20K Challenge in Spain.

Forgues, a Boothbay native, took second in the 3K racewalk at the national indoor championships in February. Her 2007 resume also includes victories at the Pan American Cup Trials and USA Junior Nationals, both 10K events.
