BREWER – The Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, in partnership with the Good Shepherd Food Bank, will mark the second anniversary of the state’s first Food Mobile during a ceremony set for 11 a.m. today at Good Shepherd’s distribution center on Stevens Road.
In conjunction with the anniversary, the Maine Credit Union League’s campaign to feed the hungry will provide funding for 125 turkeys, which will be donated to area food pantries for distribution to needy families.
Since its inception in 2005, the Food Mobile has distributed 514,319 pounds of food to food pantries across Maine. The total is projected to reach 637,859 pounds by the end of the month. Since 1990, the credit unions’ campaign has raised more than $2.3 million to help end hunger in Maine.
