PORTLAND, Maine – Nine members of the Portland High School football team have been suspended and will not play in Thursday’s season-ending Thanksgiving Day game against crosstown rival Deering.
The players were given one-week suspensions from extracurricular activities for violating the school’s code of conduct at an event that took place during the weekend. School officials would not provide details about the event, which also resulted in the suspension of other athletes.
“A bunch of kids made a mistake,” Principal Mike Johnson said. “They’ve stepped up and taken ownership.”
