PORTLAND – Sales of existing homes in Maine fell by 13 percent during the July-September quarter as the housing market’s slump worsened across the country.
The National Association of Realtors reported Wednesday that existing home sales fell in 46 states during the quarter from a year ago with Nevada, Florida and Arizona all declining more than 30 percent.
Sales of existing homes fell 13 percent nationwide.
On a brighter note, the trade group said the median sales price of existing homes in the Portland-Biddeford metropolitan area rose 0.6 percent during the quarter from a year ago to nearly $246,000. That was the only area in Maine to make the group’s list.
