Cribbage under fire

I find it ludicrous that the state has shut down Gardiner’s American Legion Post because of a cribbage game among some of our time-honored veterans. This isn’t high-stakes gambling. It’s just a group of veterans getting together to enjoy a few hours reminiscing and playing cribbage.

When I voiced my opinion to a friend (a Vietnam veteran), what he said made it crystal clear. Count the number of American Legion posts in the state and multiply it by $700 – a considerable sum. Looks like the state couldn’t get any more money on the slots, so they have decided to make up for it on the backs of our war heroes. What a slap in the face after the sacrifices they have made.

When I retired from the Air Force in 1994, I couldn’t wait to get back to Maine. I never dreamed it would become the police state it has become today. When will a little common sense prevail? What’s next? Another referendum and formation of a “CribbageNO!” movement?
