A Corinna man escaped from police after being arrested at a Dexter bar Friday evening, but was apprehended outside after a brief foot chase and a physical struggle.
According to Cpl. Alan Grinnell of the Dexter Police Department, employees at The Watering Hole on Water Street called police after Marc Ricker, 31, of Corinna followed a female acquaintance into the bar and was intimidating her.
After Grinnell arrived, Ricker refused to leave and continued to harass the woman. Grinnell said he arrested Ricker, but when he attempted to put the handcuffs on, Ricker resisted, struggled and escaped out the door.
With assistance from off-duty Dexter firefighter Steve Brown, Grinnell said, he succeeded in cuffing Ricker outside. Ricker was transported to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor on charges including criminal trespass, resisting arrest, assault, violation of a protective order and escape after arrest. A 21-year-old Burlington man was arrested Friday night after becoming violent and threatening to burn down his mother’s home.
Jared Lovett of Burlington became angry when his mother, Joy Jipson, refused to give him money, according to Deputy Sheriff Michael Knights of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. Lovett reportedly tore the phone from the wall after Jipson called 911 shortly before 9 p.m., then left in a friend’s vehicle.
Officers from the Lincoln Police Department and the Maine State Police responded to the scene along with the county sheriff’s department. A K-9 team from Millinocket was called in to search for Lovett, who was thought to have fled into the woods. The K-9 team was not used, however, because Lovett returned to his mother’s home on foot and turned himself in to officers without incident, Knights said.
Lovett was arrested on charges of domestic terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime. He was transported to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor pending bail. (Meg Haskell, BDN)
