Police and firefighters evacuated the busy Bangor Mall Saturday night after a small electrical fire set off a smoke alarm at about 7:40 p.m.

According to Sgt. Cathy Rumsey of the Bangor Police Department, the fire started in a ceiling fan in an employee restroom at the Space Port game arcade near Ruby Tuesday. After emergency personnel arrived, the entire mall was evacuated for about a half-hour while the fire was contained and the area was ventilated. “The situation was dealt with quickly,” Rumsey said. “It was a crowded time because of the big shopping weekend.”

No injuries were reported and damage was minimal, she said. (Meg Haskell, BDN)
