BIDDEFORD – Police in Biddeford are on the lookout for the culprit who stole a heating oil truck and removed more than 500 gallons of the pricey fuel.

Deputy Police Chief JoAnne Fisk said the truck was filled with 2,800 gallons of oil when it was reported stolen Monday morning from a Dead River Co. parking lot.

The truck was recovered that afternoon in a residential neighborhood several miles away. By that time, 530 gallons were gone.

With heating oil averaging $3.17 a gallon statewide, the stolen oil is valued at nearly $1,700.
