Skowhegan’s Melissa Hancock and former Belfast standout Staci Smith are among those who will be honored Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Maine Field Hockey Association’s awards banquet.
The banquet will be held at the Augusta Civic Center at 1 p.m.
Hancock is one of four current seniors named a finalist for the Miss Maine Field Hockey award, which is given to the top senior in the state. The other finalists are Messalonskee of Oakland’s Bethany Ridley, Cony of Augusta’s Natalie Fecteau and Greely of Cumberland Center’s Mackenzie Ross.
Hancock is a fullback who helped the Indians win their seventh straight Class A state title earlier this month.
Smith, a 1995 Belfast graduate, is one of four inductees into the MFHA Hall of Fame. She was an all-star goalie for the Lions and went on to play for Old Dominion University.
She will be joined by Linda Laughlin, a longtime coach and official and former MFHA president who now coaches the Maine Elite team; former Lake Region of Naples coach Linda Whitney, and former Gorham High coach Mitzi Chadbourne, also a past president of the MFHA.
Members of the all-state and academic all-state teams will also be honored as well as Steph Lunt 12th Player Award winner Katye Milligan of Skowhegan and Media Award winner Michael Hoffer of The Forecaster.
