For 16 years, wrote members Pam Ware and Bill Shook, the nonprofit New Renaissance Singers have entertained you, and now they invite you to their Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at First Congregational Church, 35 Church St., Brewer.

Directed by Laura Green Estey and accompanied by pianist Dora Rexrode, other singers with Ware and Shook are Judy Adams, Armand Andrle, Nancy Averill, Kathryn Farquhar, Marie Harrington, Melva Kent, Janet Kimball, Pat Moulton, Molly Stevens, Mike Strang and Rew Ware.

The singers make weekly contributions to cover expenses for director and accompanist salaries and music, and appreciate the support of individuals and businesses that advertise in their concert booklet.

During intermission, a holiday gift basket including two donated Bangor Symphony Orchestra tickets will be raffled. After the concert, join the singers for refreshments and conversation.

Vocalists interested in learning more about the singers may call Pam Ware, 989-6535, e-mail WareHere@verizon.net or visit www.NR

Jen Baker invites you to the LaGrange Fire Department craft fair 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at M.C. Cook School on Howland Road in LaGrange.

Space is still available for rent for $15 and can be reserved by calling Baker at 943-2402 or e-mailing jrbaker@surfmk.com.

If you bring the kids, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. they can have their picture taken with Santa Claus.

Kicking off the ninth annual Coats & Toys for Kids campaign Saturday, Dec. 1, will be area television personalities John Smist and Steve McKay at Hannaford in Brewer, and Chris Facchini and Kara Matuszewski at Shaw’s on Springer Drive in Bangor.

Coats may be dropped off at any Hannaford or Shaw’s between now and Monday, Dec. 31, throughout Maine.

Toys must be dropped off no later than Friday, Dec. 14, at those supermarkets, statewide, so the Salvation Army can prepare them for families for the holidays.

Barbara Johnson is chairwoman of the Down East Community Hospital Auxiliary holiday fair, which will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Alumni Gymnasium at Washington Academy on High Street in East Machias.

Lil Hanscom reports “many of our favorite crafters will be back, along with several new folks.” She added that “the Kids’ Crafts will, once again, be an event on the stage.”

Raffles, hot dogs, sandwiches, soups, beans and chili are available for lunch, and Santa Claus will be dispensing candy surprises from his bag.

Funds raised by the auxiliary go toward college scholarships, recognition of hospital departments, the Auxiliary Gift Shop, its annual hospital pledge and its Lite of Life pledge, Hanson said.

Maine Museum of Art education coordinator Gina Platt suggests that people who plan to attend the city of Bangor tree lighting Saturday should arrive early and visit the museum at 40 Harlow St. The lighting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in West Market Square and will be followed by the Festival of Lights Parade.

Saturday is Family Day at the museum, Platt wrote, and admission is free.

“The museum has fun activities for kids, like scavenger hunts, and is a great place to explore while waiting for the parade to begin,” she added.

And the museum “is right on the parade route!”

Sonia Erskine said the Dixmont United Methodist Church will host its 19th annual turkey pie supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Dixmont Snowmobile Clubhouse.

Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and free for children under 5.

You may buy turkey pies for $10. Place your order by calling Erskine at 234-2271.

“In 2006,” she wrote, “145 pies were made from 20 turkeys totaling approximately 400 pounds. We are planning on the same amounts for this year.”
