PORTLAND – A 19-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and criminal speed in connection with a fatal car crash last summer in his hometown of Scarborough.
John Heger appeared Tuesday in Cumberland County Superior Court on the charges arising from the death of 14-year-old Brittany Burke, a student at Scarborough Middle School.
Authorities said Heger was driving more than 30 mph over the speed limit on July 12 when his car went out of control on Black Point Road. Burke, who was riding in the car, died at Maine Medical Center.
