Two Berwick siblings charged with arson

BERWICK – A brother and sister from Berwick have been charged with arson for allegedly setting a fire that spread to a home where eight children were sleeping.

Maine State Police said 25-year-old Matthew Casson and his 20-year-old sister, Amy Dame, are being held at York County Jail on $50,000 bail each after being charged Friday night.

Fire investigators said the two allegedly set fire to a sport utility vehicle parked outside a Berwick home at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. The fire spread to the house where one adult and eight children were sleeping, but everyone escaped injury.

Investigators said Casson and Dame knew the homeowner and that the fire was a result of a dispute after a child’s birthday party.
