A mystery beast from Maine that turned out to be a dog is going to be featured on the History Channel.

The animal that was believed to have killed dogs in the towns of Wales and Greene gets the spotlight at 10 p.m. Wednesday as part of a 13-week documentary called “MonsterQuest.” The show also looks at evidence surrounding other legendary creatures such as Bigfoot and Birdzilla.

In Maine, the grotesque body of a mystery animal that was found dead near power lines in Turner was confirmed by DNA tests to be a dog, putting to rest speculation that it was an exotic beast.

But before the mystery was solved, word of the Maine beast received widespread attention.

The “MonsterQuest” series was created by Whitewolf Entertainment of Minnesota.
