Jovan Belcher of the University of Maine has been named to the New England Football Writers Association Football Champion-ship Subdivision All-Star team.

The honor for the junior defensive end from West Babylon, N.Y., comes on the heels of Belcher’s selection to the All-Colonial Athletic Association defensive first team.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Belcher, who made the switch from linebacker last season, finished with a career-high 85 tackles. He also registered 17 tackles for a loss, including 10 quarterback sacks.

Belcher ranked first in the CAA and seventh in the nation with 0.91 sacks per game and led the league while ranking 15th in the country in tackles for loss (1.55 per game).
