Racist comic strip

I am writing in response to a very tasteless comic strip in your Nov. 24-25 edition. The comic strip, “Non Sequitur,” by Wiley Miller, depicts a hen on a nest with a white hood over its head, suggesting the KKK, and the farmer says, “It only lays egg whites.”

There is enough prejudice and racial hatred in this world without exposing this to our children and others who read these so-called “funnies.” I am concerned as a Maine citizen and a parent that this Wiley person should retract this cartoon and if further prejudices are portrayed this way, this cartoon should be banned from your newspaper. Your editor, who checks over these articles, may think this is funny but anything to do with the KKK is not funny to anyone but the people who belong to this tasteless cult.

I feel even your cartoons should be edited for content before being put out for our children to read and others who are misled by subliminal messages.
