WATERVILLE – An assault on a woman has prompted police to expand their presence on and around the Colby College campus in Waterville.

Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey said a man approached the woman from behind at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday and pulled her toward him. Rumsey said the attack was not sexual in nature.

He said the assault occurred as the woman, who was in her mid-30s or early 40s, was leaving the wooded Colby Arboretum.

The incident comes less than two months after an 18-year-old woman was attacked by a man while walking behind a dormitory in the middle of the campus.
