H-H shocks Bangor Wildcats open with hockey win

BANGOR – Morgan Hall and Craig Buxton scored goals 1:08 apart over the first 1:26 of the third period as Class B Houlton-Hodgdon stunned defending Eastern Maine Class A finalist Bangor 2-1 in a high school hockey opener at Sawyer Arena Saturday.

Hall scored 18 seconds into the third period to tie it and Buxton notched the game-winner at the 1:26 mark.

Freshman Malik Abouliesh stopped 28 shots for Houlton-Hodgdeon.

Nate Lewis scored 8:45 into the second period on assists from Joey Seccareccia and Bill Frost for Bangor. Andrew Riley stopped 14 shots.

Presque Isle 6, Old Town 3

At Presque Isle, Dylan Collins scored three goals to lead Presque Isle by Old Town.

Zac Campbell assisted on all three of Collins’ goals. Mark Carbell, Brennen Shaw and Parker Hovey each added a goal. Brandon Daigle had two assists while Jason Martin had one. Ethan Hill stopped 18 shots for the 1-0 Wildcats.

Cody Cross, Ryan Daniel and Jason Smith each scored a goal for Old Town while Pat Singer posted an assist. Cameron Washburn made 14 saves for the 0-1 Coyotes.

Houlton 63, Madawaska 28

At Houlton, James Bates scored a game-high 14 points and Parker Brown added 10 more as Houlton evened its record.

Porter Gervais and Dylan Flewelling had seven points apiece and Gervais grabbed seven rebounds.

Mike Cannan’s 13 points led Madawaska.
