Man and 14-year-old girl arrested in brutal beating in Brewer

BREWER – A 54-year-old Hampden man apparently was lured into a Wilson Street motel room Saturday night and severely beaten by two or three people, then robbed of his cash, Capt. Jason Moffitt of the Brewer Police Department said Monday.

“The injuries are fairly serious and include a possible broken cheekbone and broken ribs,” he said, describing the beating as brutal. “No weapons were used.”

The victim was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, but was able to give police the description of at least one of his assailants, Moffitt said.

Shortly after the 11:30 p.m. assault, police released the description to area law enforcement. Shortly afterward, a 14-year-old girl who matched the description was involved in an argument outside of the Tavern in Bangor.

Bangor police officers stopped the juvenile and Allen Goldsborough, 20, a Bangor area transient.

After questioning by Brewer officers, both were arrested for robbery. Goldsborough was charged with Class A robbery and taken to Penobscot County Jail. Charges against the juvenile have been forwarded to appropriate prosecutors. She was released, with conditions, to her mother.

“The Bangor officers that did this were really on the ball,” Moffitt said. “They put two and two together very quickly.”

Police believe a third person may have been involved in the incident, he said.

“We are currently looking for another person of interest, Jonathan Mejai,” Moffitt said.

Mejai, 22, has no known address but law enforcement officials believe that he lives in the Bangor area, Moffitt said.

“We’re still sorting through some information, but we believe that there is going to be one more arrest,” Moffitt said.

Goldsborough had his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Monday and remained in jail that evening. If convicted of Class A robbery, he could face in excess of 10 years in prison.
