Writers strike brings more reality to lineups

‘Tis the season for the fall reality lineup to be announced and there’s plenty to talk about because the Writers Guild strike has called for many shows to be released earlier than expected.

Before this season of “The Biggest Loser” even ends, NBC is already preparing to air season five of the show on Jan. 1. During upcoming shows, viewers will get to experience a twist with couples – brothers and sisters, moms and daughters, husbands and wives – competing together to lose the weight and change their lives.

It’s kind of like “The Amazing Race” for overweight people and should prove to be packed with even more drama. “The Biggest Loser 5” premieres at 8 p.m. Jan. 1, just two weeks after the season four finale.

The casting special of Bravo’s “Make Me a Supermodel” premieres at 11 p.m. the next day. The network announced earlier this week the 24 finalists who will be competing for a professional modeling contract, and regular episodes of the show will begin at 10 p.m. Jan. 10.

In other news, Donald Trump didn’t get his dream team – not even close – and the upcoming season of “The Apprentice” appears to be just as disappointing as the last.

Omarosa, the obnoxious and mean-spirited contestant from 2004, is back and should provide some entertainment, but once she’s gone the cast is lacking. The big names this time around include Stephen Baldwin, Gene Simmons of KISS and Vincent Pastore, aka “Big Pussy” from “The Sopranos.”

The celebrity contestants won’t be competing for a job, although from the look of the lineup some of them could use one. Instead, they’ll be raising money for their favorite charities throughout the show, with the finalists winning a $250,000 bonus to donate to their organization of choice.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to wait until March for my personal favorite to air.

“When Women Rule the World” is set to air at 8 p.m. March 3 on Fox. The concept is simple. Participants are taken to a remote location where the women rule a society that they create and the men act as their servants.

In order to win, the men must obey or be eliminated. The last man standing will win $250,000.

Yes, I know it’s cruel and we’re supposed to be a more gender-equal society, but wouldn’t it be fun to rule the opposite sex for a day?
