NEW GLOUCESTER – Two Maine Winter Sports Center biathlon athletes were named to the European Cup team for January.

Laura Spector of Lenox, Mass., and Haley Johnson, a native of Lake Placid, N.Y., who is a University of Maine-Fort Kent student, will go to competitions in Langdorf, Germany, and Osrblie, Slovakia, next month. In addition Spector has pre-qualified for the world junior biathlon championships in Ruhpolding, Germany, also in January.

The seven-member U.S. team was selected for the European Cup based on results from the first two North America Cup competitions and U.S. Biathlon Association international team criteria.
