ORONO – Morgan Hall and Mike Epley each scored two goals in Houlton-Hodgdon’s four-goal second period en route to a 5-1 high school hockey win over Orono Monday night.

Mark Cloutier scored an unassisted first-period goal for Orono, but then the Black Hawks responded with four in the second with Cody Briggs, Zach Chase, Ashir Abouleish and Chris McGuire each notching an assist.

Ashir Abouleish added a third-period goal off an Elliot Mooers assist for the 2-1 winners and Malik Abouleish finished with 18 saves.

David Eugley made 34 saves for the 1-2 Red Riots.

Boys basketball

Shead 61, Lubec 54

At Lubec, Justin Lewey scored nine of his 17 points in the second half to lead Shead of Eastport past Lubec.

Wayne Clossey scored 17 points for the Tigers and Dana Mitchell added 12 points.

Timmy Gross paced Lubec with a game-high 30 points and Shayn McPherson scored 14 points.

At Islesboro, eighth-grader D.J. Johnson scored 14 points, handed out 10 assists and made five steals to lead the Eagles to victory.

Freshman Jason Hatch tossed in a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Islesboro. Charlie Gebhardt added nine points.

Travis Staples paced Averill/Alfond School of Hinckley with 10 points, while Zach Morris added nine.

At the Bangor Auditorium, Derek Smith hit a 35-foot 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime, and Aaron Healey scored eight points in the extra period to lift John Bapst of Bangor to the victory.

Healey finished with a game-high 20 points, 16 after intermission, for the 3-1 Crusaders, while 6-foot-7 senior center Ethan Cushman added 18 points and Smith had 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Ethan Shanley led 3-1 Old Town with 18 points, while Luke Bartlett scored 11 points and Evan Paradis had 10 points and six steals.

Old Town took its first lead of the second half when Bartlett hit a 3-pointer with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter to give the Coyotes a 43-42 lead. Old Town led 50-45 with 16 seconds left, but Healey hit a 3-pointer from the key before Shanley hit the first of two free throws to make it 51-48 with five seconds left.

Healey missed the second attempt, and Smith took the rebound and dribbled down the right side of the court before launching the game-tying 3-pointer as time expired.

John Bapst then scored the first seven points of the overtime, as Healey sandwiched two free throws and a 3-pointer around a layup by Cushman as the Crusaders took a 58-51 lead.

Katahdin 54, Hodgdon 35

At Stacyville, Olivia McNally scored a game-high 23 points to lead Katahdin past Hodgdon.

Alisha Majkowski chipped in with nine points for the Cougars.

Sam Carpenter paced Hodgdon with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
