Old Town woman, 44, arrested in felony OUI

ORONO – A woman driving on Interstate 95 caught the eye and nose of another motorist last week, resulting in Jacqueline Francis, 44, of Old Town being arrested for operating under the influence.

A male motorist called police when he smelled rubber and then noticed the woman ahead of him driving very fast on the rim of one of her tires, according to Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture’s report.

“The tire wore off the vehicle completely and she continued to drive the vehicle on the rim,” Scripture wrote.

The police sergeant caught up to Francis at the University Mall Parking Lot on Stillwater Avenue.

Scripture asked her if she knew that the tire was missing, and she replied that she thought the car was handling funny.

An empty bottle of vodka was found underneath one of the car’s seats and Francis failed field sobriety tests, according to the police report.

Once at the police station, Francis wouldn’t give an accurate blood-alcohol level test so she had to be taken to the hospital for a blood sample to be taken. Before leaving, she threw up in the police station bathroom for about 15 minutes and continued to vomit all the way to the hospital, according to police.

Francis posted bail from the hospital and is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor. She has two prior convictions for operating under the influence, causing the current charge to rise to the felony level.
