AARON HEALEY
Healey, a senior forward for the John Bapst of Bangor basketball team, saved his best for overtime. He scored eight of his 20 points in the extra period of a 67-60 victory over Old Town on Monday, and the next night scored seven of his 10 points in overtime of a 64-61 victory over Ellsworth.
Small School (Classes C-D)
TIM GROSS
Gross, a member of the Lubec boys basketball team, maintained his high-scoring ways in three games for the Hornets. He scored 25 points against Jonesport-Beals, 23 points against Machias and 30 points in a 61-54 loss to Shead of Eastport on Monday night.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
JULIE SMITH
Belfast High freshman guard Smith scored 19 points, including the winning 3-point play with three seconds left, in a 47-46 victory over KVAC Class B rival Camden Hills Saturday. She tossed in 16 points in a 34-28 win over MCI of Pittsfield Monday as the Lions moved to 3-1.
Small School (Classes C-D)
KARIN BIRD
Bird, a senior forward for the Lee Academy girls basketball team, was the leading scorer in the Pandas’ first two games this year, putting up a combined 40 points in the key wins. She went 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for 16 points in a 58-47 victory over Woodland and was 9-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the line for 24 points in a 58-52 win over Houlton.
