Hanscom helps Lynx beat Hawks

HERMON – Bree Hanscom’s 16-point effort paced Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to a 54-45 schoolgirl basketball victory over Hermon on Wednesday night.

Katelyn DeRaps contributed 14 points as the Lynx handed the Hawks their first loss.

Emily Berglund tossed in 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to power the Hawks. Ashley Kelley and Erin Arnold netted 10 points each.

Hillary Laferriere scored nine of her game-high 17 points from the foul line to lead John Bapst of Bangor. Samantha Gormley scored 15 points.

Catherine Carter and Paige Saunders tallied eight points each for Ellsworth.

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Nick Pease scored two goals in the first 21 seconds as Hampden Academy held off Presque Isle.

Mitch Dumais and Mike Mourkas each added a goal in the second period while Josh Tardiff tallied two assists for Hampden. Jacob Ward made 28 saves on 31 shots for the 2-1 Broncos.

Dylan Collins, Brennen Shaw and Brandon Daigle each netted a goal while Jason Martin had two assists for Presque Isle. Josh McFarline stopped 18 of 22 shots for the 2-2-1 Wildcats.

At Orono, Seth Dwyer tallied a game-high 22 points to power Orono by Searsport.

A.J. Coleman chipped in with 11 points for Orono.
